CVE-2026-9506 — Unauthenticated Local File Inclusion (LFI) in Bagisto

Unauthenticated LFI in Bagisto allows arbitrary file read via path traversal without authentication. Disclosed via CERT-In and assigned CVE-2026-9506.

Summary

An Unauthenticated Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability was identified in Bagisto. Due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input, an attacker could manipulate file paths and potentially access arbitrary files stored on the server without requiring authentication.

The issue was responsibly disclosed, fixed by the vendor, and assigned CVE-2026-9506 through the CERT-In coordinated vulnerability disclosure process.

CVE-2026-9506 — LFI in Bagisto

Impact

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to:

  • Read sensitive application files.
  • Access configuration files containing database credentials.
  • Retrieve environment variables and API keys.
  • Gather information useful for further attacks.

The vulnerability does not necessarily lead to remote code execution by itself, but exposure of sensitive files can significantly increase the risk of compromise.

What is Local File Inclusion (LFI)?

Local File Inclusion is a vulnerability where a web application allows user-controlled input to determine which file is loaded or displayed. If proper validation is missing, an attacker may use directory traversal sequences (such as ../) to access files outside the intended directory.

Simple Example

Suppose an application loads pages like this:

https://example.com/?page=about.html

Internally, it may do something similar to:

include($_GET['page']);

An attacker could try:

?page=../../../etc/passwd

If the input is not properly validated, the server may return the contents of a local system file instead of the intended page.

Example Payload

../../../etc/passwd

or URL-encoded:

..%2F..%2F..%2Fetc%2Fpasswd

(Generic educational example. Not specific to the affected product.)
